Why is Social Sentiment Important? and Where Can You Track it?

As we have seen over the past couple of years, there were a good handful of "Social Sentiment Stocks" like GME and AMC that skyrocketed based almost solely off of social sentiment. As a result of this, many people have started to pay attention to the social sentiment behind stocks.

Out of the several DraftKings Inc. (DKNG) stock discussion available to for investors to share their opinions and discuss their favourite stocks, there are 2 stock discussion forums that influence DKNG's social sentiment more than any others. These 2 stock discussion forums include DKNG Stocktwits and DKNG Twitter.

The Utradea Social Sentiment Dashboard allows you to track real-time trends and insights for DraftKings Inc. discussions and DraftKings Inc. conversations.

DKNG Stocktwits Impressions Up Massively

Here are the latest analytics from the DKNG Stocktwits forum (over the last 24hrs):

  • 162 Posts (down -12.43% day over day)
  • 277 Likes (down -10.06% day over day)
  • 606.22k Impressions (up 405.13% day over day)

It is interesting to see that the DKNG Stocktwits posts, and engagement (likes) are both down by a little bit, but their impressions are up so largely. Seeing such an increase would hint at news being dropped about the DKNG stock, but if that happened, we would likely see more posting volume. With that being said, lets take a look at this. Just by looking at the DKNG Stocktwits page it is hard to find why, as there seems to be nothing significant posted and no news. Let's take a look at the Utradea Social Sentiment Dashboard. Using this we can see that there was a large spike (300k impressions) in DKNG impressions at 2:30pm on June 23rd. Using this narrowed timeline along with "Important Feed" section on the dashboard, we narrowed it down to this Stocktwits post by "Benzinga (300k followers on Stocktwits). This post is not really related to DKNG in any way it just mentions DKNG, which is why it got posted to Stocktwits with the $DKNG ticker attached to it (among others).

DKNG Twitter Sentiment Struggling

Here are the latest analytics from the DKNG Twitter community (over the last 24hrs):

  • 288 Tweets (down -27.46% day over day)
  • 159 Likes (down -70.93% day over day)
  • 1.2M Impressions (down -68.21% day over day)

It is understandable why we have seen such a decline in DKNG Twitter sentiment, as it would have likely been the same case as with the DKNG Stocktwits without the one "Benzinga" post. It is not ideal to see such a large decrease in the DKNG Twitter sentiment, as the DKNG Twitter community is about 2x as large as the DKNG Stocktwits community, and therefore is likely to be more influential on the stock.

DKNG Twitter Accounts that Influence Social Sentiment

Here is a count of “whale” accounts that are active on DKNG Twitter (over the past 72 hrs):

  • 20 somewhat large Twitter accounts 10,000+ followers

Usually we see posting on these "whale account to be spread a bit more over 10k+, 100k+, and 500k+. However, DKNG has all 20 accounts that have posted about them as only 10k+. This could be due to there was no big events or news that DKNG has experienced that would influence these larger accounts to post about them.
